In 2019, my team and I attended a Model United Nations (MUN) event in New York City hosted by a local university team. Upon returning to Jamaica, we noticed our collective ambition; all of us were left craving more practice, more interconnectedness, more knowledge of our globalized world. At that moment, I knew that the only feasible solution to combat this was to act proactively in creating an environment that encourages the cultivation of this spirit. 

 

From that spirit, JAMUN was born. As the first student-led Model United Nations conference in the Caribbean region, we pride ourselves in our unique spirit of teamwork and curiosity, a constant yearning for more. We also recognized the disparities in the region regarding the availability of certain resources, and ensuring academic equity is absolutely quintessential to our mission. 

 

JAMUN is a trailblazer in the grand world of MUN. Our mission is to constantly strive for greater goals and greater inclusivity, led by ambitious student teams with the centralized goal of collectively acquired knowledge. Our goal is to spark a passion within Jamaican and international student delegates to act on their passions without limitations, in the spirit of globalization. 

 

As the first Secretary-General, I am immensely proud of the development of JAMUN over the years. Despite difficulties wrought onto our team during a pandemic, our passion allowed us to nonetheless adapt and persevere by hosting the event online, which ultimately allowed for a more diverse event by including students from all over the globe!

JAMUN is an event truly like no other, and I cannot wait to see how it continues to grow and inspire future generations.
